NATO’s bi-annual Familiarization Programme testifies to increased importance of Allies’ engagement with Partners
From 7 to 16 December 2022, NATO hosts military personnel from 20 Partner Nations for its bi-annual Familiarization Programme. The 8-day event, jointly organised by NATO Military Cooperative Security Division and SHAPE’s Partnership Directorate Military Cooperation Division, introduces Partner representatives to NATO’s Partnership frameworks, delving into the Alliance’s outreach programmes and activities.

NATO military delegation holds staff-to-staff talks with partner, Mongolia
On 1-2 December 2022, a military delegation from NATO’s Cooperative Security Division, led by its Director, Major General Francesco Diella travelled to Ulaanbaatar to meet with representatives from the Mongolian Military Authorities. The talks were held within the framework of NATO’s Partnership with Mongolia.

The Director General of the NATO International Military Staff (DGIMS), Lieutenant General Janusz Adamczak, participated in the Alliance Warfare Development (AWD) Conference, which took place from 6 to 8 December in Norfolk, Virginia, US. Tthis year’s event was themed “Better Today, Stronger Tomorrow” and brought together key NATO and Allied representatives to discuss how the Alliance can better prepare and respond to a more complex and an ever-changing security environment.

NATO Secretary General: ''Russia trying to freeze Ukraine conflict''
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Wednesday (07 December 2022) stressed the importance of continued NATO Allied support to Ukraine as it faces Russia’s war of aggression. Addressing the Financial Times’ Global Boardroom event via video link, Mr Stoltenberg said the conflict would likely enter a quieter phase over winter but that Russia is showing no sign of seeking a peaceful end to the conflict.

NATO Secretary General takes part in the FT’s Global Boardroom event
On 07 December 2022 the NATO Secretary General, Mr. Jens Stoltenberg, will participate in the sixth edition of the FT’s Global Boardroom event, which is focused on strategies for a new geopolitical and economic reality. The Secretary General will have a live virtual keynote interview with Ms. Roula Khalaf, the Editor of the Financial Times, from 09:30am (CET).

NATO Exercise Cyber Coalition concludes in Estonia
NATO’s flagship annual cyber defence exercise, Cyber Coalition 2022, wrapped up successfully on Friday (2 December 2022). The exercise involved a record number of participants – more than 1,000 cyber defenders from 26 NATO Allies, invitees Finland and Sweden, as well as partners Georgia, Ireland, Japan, Switzerland, and the European Union. This year’s event took place between November 28th and December 2nd in Tallinn, Estonia, as well as remotely.

Secretary General Stoltenberg praises German support to Ukraine, key role in NATO
In a visit to Berlin on Thursday (1 December 2022), NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg thanked Chancellor Olaf Scholz for Germany’s strong support to Ukraine and its key contributions to NATO, including through its historic decision to substantially increase defence spending.
